Main types: Bow rake (also called garden rake or soil rake) — flat steel head, straight or slightly curved tines, 12–16 tines, used for soil preparation, levelling, spreading, and debris collection. This is the primary commercial grade. Leaf rake (fan rake) — wide fan-shaped head with flexible wire or polypropylene tines, 16–24 tines, used for collecting leaves and light debris. Thatching rake (scarifying rake) — fixed steel tines, used for dethatching lawn, scarifying turf. Multi-purpose rake — combination designs.

Head material: Forged steel head (highest quality — longer service life, used in commercial and professional grades); pressed steel (economy and mid-range); galvanised steel; and stainless steel (specialty horticultural use).

Handle options: Varnished wood (ash, poplar, or beech — traditional and most common in commercial grade); fibreglass (lightweight, durable, preferred in premium landscaping use); steel tube (economy and budget retail).

Tine count and spacing: Standard bow rake: 12–14 tines at 20–25mm spacing. Wide bow rake: 16 tines. Narrow varieties for row cultivation: 8–10 tines. Tine length and angle affect penetration depth — specify for intended soil conditions.
