Plastic pallets are unit-load platforms produced from injection-moulded or blow-moulded HDPE or PP — used for warehouse storage, pallet racking, production floor transport, and export shipping as an alternative to wooden pallets. Food-grade plastic pallets are required in food manufacturing, food retail distribution, and food export applications where the pallet is in contact with food products or in a food production or storage area subject to hygiene regulations. Food-grade plastic pallets are: produced from virgin food-grade HDPE or PP resin (not from recycled content that may contain chemical residues); free of cracks, crevices, and rough surfaces that would harbour bacteria; washable and sanitisable (smooth surface suitable for high-pressure washing and chemical sanitisation); and compliant with applicable food safety regulations. Plastic pallets comply with ISPM 15 (the international standard for wooden packaging material that requires heat treatment or methyl bromide fumigation) — plastic pallets do not require ISPM 15 treatment and can be exported without phytosanitary certification, which is a significant practical advantage for export applications. This makes plastic pallets the preferred choice for export packaging where repeated entry to regulated markets is required.
