Single-shaft shredders use a single rotor with cutting knives rotating against a fixed counter-blade to reduce plastic to coarse chips, typically 30–80mm. They handle a wide range of input sizes including whole bales, drums, and large hollow objects. Lower speed (40–100 rpm) means lower noise, lower fines generation, and ability to handle mixed or contaminated material — but at lower throughput than granulators. Two-shaft shredders use two counter-rotating shafts with interlocking cutting discs — very robust for tough, mixed, or contaminated input including pipes, profiles, and mixed rigid scrap. Granulators (also called crushers in some markets) use a high-speed rotor (200–600 rpm) with multiple cutting blades rotating against fixed knives — producing smaller, more consistent output (15–30mm) at higher throughput but requiring cleaner, pre-sized input. Not suitable for bales or very large objects. Wet crushers (wet granulators) operate in a water-flooded chamber, cutting plastic while simultaneously washing — used in film recycling lines to cut film in water, preventing wrapping and dust.
