Key Class I requirements: minimum size 39 mm diameter (or 55 g), characteristic colouring for the variety, peduncle present or absent, sufficiently firm. For W. Murcott and Nadorcott — these are classified as Mandarins under EU standards; buyers often specify under contract the specific variety requirement rather than relying on marketing standard variety designation alone.
Clemenules PDO and Competing Origins
Clemenules is Spain's dominant clementine variety, grown primarily in Valencia and Castellón (Plana Alta and Plana Baixa regions). A geographic indication (Protected Geographical Indication — PGI) process for "Clementina de las Tierras del Ebro" and "Clementina de la Comunitat Valenciana" exists in Spain, though EU PDO/PGI registration for Clemenules specifically remains partial.
