Parcourir les fournisseurs →Nigeria produced an estimated 1.0–1.2 million tonnes of CPO per year (recent estimates), making it the world's fifth or sixth largest palm oil producer. The oil palm belt extends across the southern states including Edo, Delta, Imo, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, and Anambra. Nigerian oil palm is predominantly the natural wild-type (Dura) variety on traditional smallholder farms, with significantly lower yields than the improved hybrid Tenera variety used in commercial plantations in Southeast Asia and Colombia.
Large-scale commercial operators include: Okomu Oil Palm PLC (listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, majority owned by SIFCA Group/Socfin); Presco PLC (listed, majority owned by Siat Group Belgium); and several other mid-scale commercial estates. These companies hold ISO 22000 and RSPO certifications, with Okomu and Presco among the more internationally compliant operators. NIFOR (Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research) in Benin City conducts oil palm research and develops improved planting materials.
Nigeria's palm oil market is predominantly domestic — the country is a net importer of palm oil despite its production, as domestic consumption significantly exceeds output. Importation occurs primarily from Indonesia and Malaysia. Nigerian palm oil pricing is tied to domestic market conditions and is subject to NAFDAC (National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control) food safety oversight.
