BOPET costs more per kilogram than BOPP. What does corona treatment mean for packaging film?
Corona treatment is a surface energy-raising process applied to polyolefin films (BOPP, CPP, PE) before printing or lamination. Untreated polyolefin films have low surface energy and poor adhesion to inks, adhesives, and coatings. Corona treatment exposes the film surface to a high-frequency electrical discharge that oxidises the surface, raising surface energy to a level (typically 38–42 dynes/cm) that allows inks and adhesives to wet and bond effectively. If you are ordering film that will be printed or laminated, specify corona-treated film on both surfaces (or on the print side as appropriate) — and confirm the treatment level is still adequate at the time of use since corona treatment fades over time.
How do I specify wind direction for a packaging film roll?
Wind direction (or winding direction) specifies whether the print face of the film is on the outside or inside of the roll as it unwinds. Outside wound means the printed or coated face is on the outside of the roll — the film unwinds with the print face up. Inside wound means the print face is on the inside. The correct wind direction depends entirely on your packaging machine's threading path and feed mechanism. Check your machine's film specification or contact the OEM before ordering. Receiving film wound in the wrong direction means it cannot be used on your line without rewinding — a costly mistake.
