Seasoning coating machines — types and applications

Seasoning coating machines apply a flavour coating (dry seasoning powder, oil, or wet slurry coating) to snack food products. The main types are: rotary drum coaters (the snack product tumbles in a slowly rotating drum while seasoning is sprayed or dusted onto the surface — a thin, even seasoning coating is applied as the product tumbles; oil is sprayed first as a binder, then dry seasoning is applied; standard in crisp, popcorn, nut, and snack extrudate seasoning); continuous belt seasoners (the product passes on a belt through a seasoning application zone with overhead powder duster and oil spray — suitable for flat or fragile products that should not be tumbled); tumbling drum coaters with wet slurry application (for wet or paste coatings — marinades, flavour pastes, batter slurry); and electrostatic seasoning applicators (an electric charge on the seasoning powder causes it to adhere to the product surface more effectively, with less fallthrough waste — used for flavour efficiency improvement in premium seasoning applications).
