The stand-up pouch (also known as a doypack) is characterised by a gusset at the base that allows the pouch to stand upright on shelf — offering retail display, consumer convenience, and efficient package-to-product ratio advantages over rigid containers. The standard stand-up pouch consists of an outer layer (typically BOPP or PET for print and puncture resistance), a barrier layer (AL foil, metallised PET, or EVOH for oxygen and moisture barrier), and an inner PE or CPP heat-seal layer. For food applications requiring high oxygen barrier — coffee, dried fruits, snacks, pet food — an aluminium foil structure provides the best barrier performance; transparent structures using EVOH allow product visibility where the application permits. Stand-up pouches are available with a range of closure options: plain top-seal (open and reseal with a clip or roll), zipper reseal (press-to-close or slider zipper for consumer convenience), spout cap (for liquid or semi-liquid contents), and with or without a one-way degassing valve for fresh-roasted coffee. For food contact applications, the inner PE or CPP seal layer must comply with EU Regulation 10/2011 or FDA 21 CFR, and the manufacturer must provide a Declaration of Compliance.
