Wheelbarrows are a high-volume SKU in construction supply, agricultural equipment, and hardware retail. For wholesale buyers the key specification variables are tray capacity, tray material, frame construction, and wheel type.

Tray capacity: The primary specification for commercial and construction buyers. Standard sizes range from 60 litres (economy/domestic) to 80–100 litres (construction standard) and 120+ litres (heavy-duty or contractor grade). Capacity is measured in litres (L) or cubic feet (cu ft) — 1 cubic foot ≈ 28.3 litres. African and Asian markets commonly specify by volume in litres; European markets use both.

Tray material: Steel tray (most common for construction — pressed steel, typically 1.0–1.5mm thick, painted or powder coated); galvanised steel tray (for wet environments and agricultural use — longer service life); polyethylene (poly) tray (lighter, corrosion-resistant, suited to chemical or fertiliser use, popular in agriculture and landscaping).

Frame: Tubular steel (round tube 25–32mm OD, wall 1.5–2.0mm) or square tube, painted or powder coated. Bent/welded construction. Wheel axle: drop-forged or stamped steel stub axle.

Wheel: Pneumatic tyre (most common — 4.00-6 or 3.50-6 size for construction) or solid PU foam-filled (puncture-proof — preferred for jobsite use). Ball bearings vs plain bushings in the wheel hub.

Handles: Hardwood (traditionally ash or poplar), steel tube with rubber grip, or fibreglass. Steel handles are preferred for OEM/private label and retail in most developing markets.

Wholesale procurement: Wheelbarrows are sold flat-packed (nested) for efficient container loading — typically 40–60 units per 20ft container flat-packed, or 80–120 per 40ft HQ container. MOQ from Chinese suppliers: 100–500 units per colour/style. Private label (custom logo, custom colour) available at 200+ units.
