Malaysia is the world's second largest palm oil producer and exporter, accounting for approximately 25–28% of global palm oil production and over 35% of global palm oil exports (Malaysia exports a higher share of its production than Indonesia, which has a larger domestic market to supply). The Malaysian palm oil industry is mature, technically sophisticated, and globally connected — Malaysian palm oil companies have been exporting to over 150 countries for decades, and Malaysia's industry body, MPOB (Malaysian Palm Oil Board), is one of the world's foremost palm oil research and regulatory bodies. The major integrated palm oil groups with significant cooking oil production and export capacity: FGV Holdings (Felda Global Ventures — the world's largest palm oil plantation group by planted area at one point, listing on Bursa Malaysia, operating refineries and bulk export terminals at Port Klang and Pasir Gudang); IOI Corporation Berhad (IOI Group — a leading plantation and oleochemicals conglomerate with refineries at Batu Pahat and Pasir Gudang, Johor); Sime Darby Plantation Berhad (one of the world's largest plantation companies by land area, operating under the Sime Darby brand); Musim Mas Malaysia (part of Musim Mas Group — also one of the largest integrated palm oil players globally); KLK (Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad — major plantation group with oleochemical operations). RBD palm olein (refined, bleached, deodorised palm olein) is Malaysia's primary cooking oil export product — exported in bulk (ISO tank containers, flexitanks, ship's tank) and packaged forms. Specialty palm-based products from Malaysia include RBD palm stearin (high-melting solid fraction, used in margarine, shortenings, and frying fats), palm kernel oil (PKO — from the inner kernel, high lauric acid content, used in confectionery fats and specialty food applications), and fractionated palm oil grades (soft PMF, hard stearin). Malaysia also produces limited volumes of coconut oil and has a niche production of virgin coconut oil.
