Smooth reduction rolls also wear and may need regrinding or replacement. In a large commercial flour mill, roll regrinding is an ongoing maintenance operation. Maintaining a spare set of rolls in each size allows roll changes without stopping production. Roll-to-roll gap setting (gap between the two rolls) is critical for consistent flour quality and must be checked and adjusted regularly.
