Different grains require different machinery configurations. Wheat flour milling uses roller mills to progressively reduce and separate endosperm, bran, and germ through multiple passages, with plansifters and purifiers between each reduction stage. The result is white flour (varying extraction rates), wholemeal flour, and bran and germ by-products. Maize (corn) milling either uses a dry-milling process to produce maize meal, grits, or masa, or a wet-milling process for starch and glucose production. Rice milling dehulls paddy rice using rubber-roll hullers, then whitens milled rice through abrasive or friction whiteners, followed by grading, colour sorting, and polishing. Pulse milling (lentils, chickpeas, split peas) removes the husk and splits the grain, typically using a pin mill or impact dehuller. Each grain type requires a different cleaning sequence, humidity conditioning, and milling configuration — buyers should not assume that a wheat mill design can be directly applied to maize or rice processing.
