Beverage filling line configurations and container types
A complete beverage filling line integrates multiple machines to receive empty containers, fill them with product, apply closures, label, inspect, and pack into secondary packaging for distribution. The specific line configuration depends on the beverage type, container, and production speed. Key beverage filling line sections: container supply — for PET bottles, either a blow moulding machine (integrated or standalone) or a depalletiser for pre-formed bottles; for glass bottles, a depalletiser; for cans, a depalletiser or direct reel-fed can body maker. Rinsing — an air rinser (empty PET or glass bottles are inverted and flushed with clean air or sterile water to remove dust and particles before filling). Filling — the filler type depends on the product: gravity or volumetric fillers for still beverages; isobaric (counter-pressure) fillers for carbonated beverages (preserves CO₂ during filling); aseptic fillers for UHT-processed products (juices, dairy, tea with extended shelf life at ambient temperature); hot-fill equipment for products filled at 80–90°C (juices, sports drinks, some teas) to achieve shelf life without aseptic processing. Closure — for PET bottles: a screw capper (ROPP, snap cap, or standard screw cap); for glass: crown cap (beer, soda), ROPP aluminium cap (wine, spirits), or screw cap; for cans: a seamer (seaming lid onto can). Labelling — pressure-sensitive label applicator, hot-glue OPP label applicator, or sleeve label applicator; for PET and glass bottles. Inspection — empty bottle inspection (cameras); fill-level and closure inspection (cameras and rejection conveyors); date coding (inkjet or laser). Secondary packaging — bundler or case packer; for beverage, wrap-around case packer is standard. Palletising — automatic layer or robotic palletiser.
