Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in 16-section format are mandatory for all hazardous chemicals and must be provided in the buyer's official language. Always request an up-to-date SDS (revision date within 3 years) and confirm it complies with REACH Annex II.

Chemicals are classified under the UN Model Regulations into 9 classes: Class 1 (explosives), Class 2 (gases), Class 3 (flammable liquids — most solvents), Class 4 (flammable solids — some metal powders), Class 5 (oxidisers — some fertilizers), Class 6 (toxic/infectious), Class 8 (corrosives), Class 9 (miscellaneous). Food-grade chemicals (emulsifiers, flavours, colours, preservatives, processing aids) used in halal or kosher food production must be certified accordingly. Halal certification applies to ingredients of animal origin (gelatine, glycerol, enzymes) and ensures no alcohol-derived processing aids. KOSHER certification requires rabbinic supervision and segregation from non-kosher processes.
