Shrink wrapping uses a film tube or sleeve that is loosely placed around the product and then passed through a heat tunnel, which shrinks the film tightly around the product — the result has gathered corners and a visibly shrunk film. Overwrapping is preferred for premium rigid products (chocolate boxes, cosmetics, playing cards) where a neat folded appearance is valued. Shrink wrapping is preferred for irregular shapes, grouped multipacks, and products where the gathered shrink appearance is acceptable or where the lower machine cost is a priority.
