Polypropylene for injection moulding is available in two main structural types. PP homopolymer (PPH) is the standard general-purpose injection moulding grade — high stiffness, good surface finish, cost-effective, and suitable for rigid packaging, caps and closures, crates, and non-impact-critical structural parts. It has lower impact resistance, particularly at low temperatures. PP random copolymer (PPRC) incorporates a small percentage of ethylene comonomers to improve clarity and reduce the melting point — used for food containers, medical packaging, and applications where transparency or sterilisability (autoclave) is needed. PP block copolymer (PPBC or impact copolymer) has rubber domains dispersed in the PP matrix to deliver high impact resistance at low temperatures — used for automotive bumpers, industrial crates, tool boxes, and outdoor products. The MFI range for injection moulding PP is typically 3–60 g/10 min (measured at 230°C/2.16 kg per ASTM D1238 or ISO 1133). General-purpose moulding: 8–25 g/10 min. Thin-wall, high-speed moulding: 25–60 g/10 min. Heavy-wall parts: 3–10 g/10 min. Confirm the correct MFI range with your machine manufacturer before specifying a resin grade.
