Carton sealing machines close and seal corrugated cardboard shipping cases (RSC — regular slotted cartons) on a packaging line, after the case has been filled with primary packaged products. The sealed case is then conveyed to palletising, stretch wrapping, and dispatch. The main sealing methods and machine types are: tape carton sealers — apply self-adhesive pressure-sensitive tape to the top and/or bottom flaps of the carton to seal it closed. Tape is the most common and economical sealing method. Tape sealers are available in uniform (fixed one box size) and random (automatically adjusts to different box heights) formats. A top-and-bottom tape sealer applies tape to both the top and bottom case seams in a single pass, with the carton fed manually or by a conveyor. Random tape sealers detect the incoming box height and adjust automatically, enabling multiple carton sizes on the same line without manual adjustment — essential for e-commerce and multi-SKU operations. Hot-melt glue case sealers — apply a bead of hot-melt adhesive to the case flaps before pressing them closed. Glue sealing produces a tamper-evident bond that is stronger than tape for heavy cases and provides a cleaner appearance without visible tape. Hot-melt sealers are used in FMCG manufacturing lines where throughput, tamper evidence, and presentation are priorities. Glue-sealed cases must reach the adhesive cure time before being stacked or palletised. Case erectors + sealers — a combined machine that automatically erects flat-packed blanks into formed open cases, seals the bottom flaps, and conveys the open case to the filling station; after filling, a separate top sealer closes the top flaps. Case erector + top sealer combinations are standard on high-speed automatic packaging lines.
