Shrink wrapping machines wrap products in heat-shrink plastic film and then apply heat (via a shrink tunnel) to shrink the film tightly around the product — providing a protective and tamper-evident wrap for individual products, multi-packs, and bundled goods. Shrink wrapping is used for: individual product over-wrap (cosmetics, food trays, CDs, software); multi-pack bundling (6-pack or 24-pack beverages, bundled bottles or cans); tray and pad wrapping (food trays in retail, fresh produce); and retail shelf-ready packaging (SRP or RSP). The two main shrink film types used in shrink wrapping machines are: POF (polyolefin) shrink film — biaxially oriented polyethylene or polypropylene — the standard for food, cosmetics, and retail product over-wrap; provides a high-clarity, glossy finish, good puncture resistance, and is FDA-compliant for direct food contact. POF is the film used in the majority of retail shrink-wrap applications. PE (polyethylene) shrink film — used for heavy-duty industrial bundling applications (beverage multi-packs, water bottle trays, industrial bundle packs) where a full body-wrap at lower cost is required; less clarity than POF but excellent tear resistance at high film weights. Machine types: L-sealer + shrink tunnel — the standard combination for retail product over-wrap and food tray wrapping; the L-sealer forms the film around the product and seals it, then the product passes through the shrink tunnel to activate the film shrinkage. Automatic flow-wrap machines (side-seal or fin-seal) for high-speed product wrapping. Sleeve wrappers — a rotary or continuous machine that applies a loose sleeve of film around a multi-pack or bundle, then passes through a tunnel — the standard for beverage multi-pack bundling. Tray + pad sealers — for food retail tray presentations with MAP (modified atmosphere packaging).
