Heavier stones and dense contaminants remain in contact with the deck surface and are conveyed to the heavy fraction discharge in the opposite direction. Destoners are essential before impact mills and roller mills — even a single stone entering a roller mill can cause severe damage to the rolls and create metallic contamination in the flour.
Do I need an aspirator if I already have a pre-cleaner?
Yes, in most cases. A pre-cleaner (coarse screen) removes foreign material that is larger or smaller than the grain. An aspirator removes light contaminants (chaff, husks, dust, light weed seeds) that are the same size as the grain but have lower air resistance — a screen cannot separate these. Both stages together remove a significantly broader range of impurities than either stage alone. For pre-milling cleaning, both are standard.
