Beverage mixing tanks are stainless steel agitated vessels used in beverage plants for syrup preparation, beverage blending (water + syrup + acid + flavour mixing before carbonation or filling), ingredient hydration, and intermediate storage. Standard design features for beverage mixing tanks include: 316L stainless steel product contact surfaces (to prevent corrosion from acidic beverage ingredients — citric acid, phosphoric acid, ascorbic acid); Ra ≤ 0.8 micron (32 Ra microinch) internal surface finish to meet food-grade hygiene standards; CIP (clean-in-place) connections — at minimum a CIP supply nozzle, CIP return, and drain; top-mounted agitator sized for the product viscosity (most beverage syrups are low to medium viscosity — turbine, propeller, or sweep agitator are standard); jacket (for hot syrup preparation where sugar is dissolved at elevated temperature, or for temperature-sensitive flavour blending); heating and cooling connections; temperature sensor; and a vent filter. Beverage mixing tanks are typically operated in a batch blending mode: ingredients are added in sequence, blended to homogeneity, then transferred to the filler feed tank or pasteuriser.
