Cement in Nigeria is sold through the manufacturers' own distribution chains. The three well-known producers, Dangote Cement, BUA Cement and Lafarge Africa, sell by the trailer load to registered distributors, who supply dealers and depots, who in turn sell to block makers, contractors and the public. To buy wholesale you either register as a distributor with a manufacturer, or buy from an established distributor or depot near your site. How cement is sold in Nigeria
Nigeria makes its own cement. Bagged cement has long featured on the import prohibition list, and the market is supplied by local plants built close to limestone deposits. Dangote Cement, BUA Cement and Lafarge Africa are the producers most buyers will come across, and each sells under its own brand names and product lines.
The manufacturers do not generally sell a few bags at a time. They sell to registered distributors who buy full truckloads, either collecting from the plant with their own trucks or having the cement delivered. Those distributors supply sub-dealers, neighbourhood depots and building materials shops, and sell directly to large users such as block factories, precast yards and construction companies. Each layer adds a margin and the cost of moving the cement onwards.
