Pallet strapping machines apply a plastic or metal strap around a palletised load or product bundle, tension the strap, and weld or crimp the joint to secure the load. Strapping is used alongside or instead of stretch wrapping to hold pallets together — particularly for heavy loads, unstable column stacks, and loads that require a fixed strap position. Strap materials: PP (polypropylene) strap — the most widely used plastic strap for general-purpose pallet strapping; lower cost, lightweight, and available in a wide range of widths (12–19mm) and tensile strengths; standard for cartons, cases, and light-to-medium pallets. PET (polyester) strap — higher tensile strength and better retained tension than PP; suitable for heavier loads and loads that are subject to temperature cycling; used for steel coils, heavy timber, stone, and industrial products; in packaging, PET strap is used for heavy pallet loads or products requiring higher retained tension than PP can provide. Steel strap — the highest strength and rigidity; for extremely heavy loads (stone, metal, structural products); requires a crimping tool or steel sealer rather than a friction or heat weld. Pallet strapping machine configurations: horizontal strapper — applies a strap horizontally around the entire pallet (over the top of the load and under the pallet deck, or under the pallet runners); secures the load on the pallet from horizontal movement; standard for palletised loads in distribution. Vertical strapper — applies a strap vertically around the pallet load from side to side; used in combination with horizontal strapping for maximum load security. Automatic inline pallet strapping machines: the pallet travels through the arch of the strapper on a conveyor; the strap is automatically fed around the pallet, tensioned, and sealed in one cycle; fully integrated into the end-of-line conveyor after the pallet wrapper; available in single-arch (one horizontal strap per cycle), dual-arch (two straps simultaneously), and multi-head configurations.
