IATF 16949 (International Automotive Task Force quality management standard) is the most important quality certification for automotive parts suppliers — it is the automotive industry's extension of ISO 9001 and is required by virtually all tier-1 automotive OEM suppliers and most serious aftermarket buyers. For parts supplied into OEM assembly chains, manufacturers must additionally comply with customer-specific requirements (CSRs) from automotive brands and pass PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) or equivalent product approval processes. For aftermarket parts, product-specific type approvals and regulatory certifications define market access: ECE (Economic Commission for Europe) R regulations cover safety-critical components in Europe — including ECE R37/R99 for bulbs, ECE R90 for replacement brake pads, and ECE R43 for replacement glass.
