Rapier looms: most versatile, handle all yarn types including filament, fancy yarns, and multicolour wefts; 500–1,000 picks per minute (ppm); suitable for fashion, technical, and home textiles. Air-jet looms: fastest (up to 1,500 ppm); ideal for fine-count cotton and synthetic; limited to smooth yarns and narrower widths; lowest energy per metre for suitable fabrics. Water-jet looms: fast (1,000–1,200 ppm); ideal for synthetic (polyester, nylon) and smooth yarns; not suitable for natural fibre; lower energy than rapier.
