Screwdrivers are one of the highest-volume SKUs in the global hand tools wholesale market. For wholesale buyers, the critical specification variables are drive type, blade material, handle construction, and certification compliance. Drive types at wholesale volume include: slotted (flat-head) — the broadest range in general trade; Phillips (PH0–PH3) — dominant in electronics and general assembly; Pozidriv (PZ1–PZ3) — common in European construction; Torx (T5–T50) — essential for automotive, electronics, and IT service; JIS (Japanese Industry Standard) — required for Japanese and Korean electronics assembly; and square drive (Robertson) for Canadian and North American markets. Precision sets (PH000–PH1, slotted 0.6mm–3mm) are separately sourced for electronics and watch repair sectors. Blade material for standard trade screwdrivers is Chrome Vanadium (CrV) steel with hardness HRC 45–55, tip hardened to HRC 56–60. Higher-grade professional tools use S2 steel or full-length CrV with Black Tip (BT) treatment. Handles are typically cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB), TPE two-component (hard core + soft grip), or polypropylene for economy ranges. For retail-ready wholesale, packaging format is a key consideration: blister cards, clamshell, printed sleeve, or set packs in various configurations (4-piece, 6-piece, 8-piece, 10-piece). OEM buyers ordering 10,000+ pieces per SKU can typically specify handle colour, blade finish, tip marking, and packaging with private label printing.
Certifications for wholesale screwdrivers
VDE certification (IEC 60900) is mandatory for electricians' screwdrivers sold in the EU and most international markets. VDE-insulated screwdrivers are rated to 1,000V AC and must be tested and certified by VDE (Verband der Elektrotechnik) or equivalent IEC-accredited body. Each insulated screwdriver must carry the VDE mark, batch number, and voltage rating. For electrical wholesale buyers, VDE compliance is non-negotiable. GS mark (Geprüfte Sicherheit) is required for consumer-market hand tools sold in Germany and is recognised across the DACH region. GS certification covers construction safety, material safety, and ergonomic assessment by an EU Notified Body. Buyers supplying German DIY chains (Hornbach, OBI, Toom, Bauhaus) or Austrian/Swiss retailers require GS mark certification. CE marking is required for all hand tools sold in the EU under the General Product Safety Directive. CE is mandatory and indicates conformity to applicable EU Directives. Suppliers must provide a Declaration of Conformity. ANSI/ASME B107 is the relevant US standard for screwdrivers and is required for US commercial and retail buyers. Look for testing reports from ANSI-accredited laboratories. Additional certifications relevant for specific channels: EN 60900 (European version of IEC 60900 for insulated tools), DIN 5265 (blade dimensions), ISO 8764 (standard screwdrivers), ISO 2380 (screwdriver blades for slotted screws).
