A stick pack is a long, narrow, single-serve flexible sachet — typically 15–35mm wide and 60–180mm long — used for portion-controlled food, beverage, and nutritional products. The stick pack format is produced on a multi-lane VFFS (vertical form fill seal) machine where multiple stick packs are formed, filled, and sealed simultaneously in parallel. Stick pack machine operating principle: multiple forming tubes are mounted side by side (commonly 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 or more lanes); a single wide flat film roll feeds all lanes; the film is split into individual lanes by slitting and guiding, or a single wide film is used with multiple forming collars; each lane forms a tube, fills it with product, and creates the longitudinal seal and transverse seals simultaneously; all lanes operate synchronised; the result is multiple stick packs per machine cycle, with very high throughput for the machine footprint. Products commonly packed in stick packs: sugar sticks (2–5g) — the single largest volume stick pack application globally; coffee sachets (instant coffee, 1.5–3g); flavoured drink powders (isotonic, fruit drink, milk shake); sweetener sticks (stevia, aspartame, sucralose; 0.3–2g); salt and pepper sticks for food service; protein powder sticks (single-serve portion); pharmaceutical powders and granules for oral sachet dosing; tea powder, matcha, and herbal tea blends; cosmeticsingle-dose powder or granule products. Dosing for stick packs: auger filler — the standard for fine powders (instant coffee, flavoured drink powder, protein, pharmaceutical); volumetric cup or rotary wheel filler — for free-flowing granules (sugar, salt); linear weigher — occasionally for coarser granules where weight accuracy is critical.
