Powder filling machines meter and dispense dry powders into bags, pouches, jars, bottles, cans, or sachets on a packaging line. The correct filling technology depends on the powder's physical characteristics: its bulk density, particle size, flowability, dustiness, and whether it is free-flowing or cohesive. Auger fillers — a rotating screw (auger) doses powder by volume; the auger rotation count controls the fill weight. Auger fillers are the standard for fine, cohesive powders such as flour, spices, milk powder, coffee, dry chemical powders, and pharmaceutical powders. They offer high fill accuracy (typically ±0.5–1%) for difficult powders and are available in food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade (GMP) versions. Cup volumetric fillers — a rotating disc with fixed-volume cups measures powder volume; faster and simpler than auger fillers but less accurate and only suitable for free-flowing, uniform-particle powders. Linear weighers — a load-cell-based system doses powder by target weight rather than volume; preferred where fill-weight accuracy is critical or where bulk density varies significantly between batches. For high-speed snack, grain, and granule applications, a multihead combination weigher (10–32 heads) achieves speeds of 50–100+ bags per minute with ±0.5g accuracy. Vacuum-assist is available on some auger fillers to improve filling of aerated or fluffy powders. For dusty powders (fine silica, carbon black, cement, chemical powders), dust containment hoods, HEPA exhaust filtration, and static-control features are required. For food powders that require allergen separation or GMP compliance, the filling machine must be constructed in 304 or 316 stainless steel with sanitary design (smooth welds, no crevices, CIP-compatible).
